Shelly Shaffer's bright southwestern colors and whimsical folk subjects are warm, charming, and evocative.
Shelly Shaffer graduated from Otis Parsons Art Institute and worked as a commercial illustrator for several years in Los Angeles. She went on to teach illustration at Cal State Los Angeles University for a brief but very rewarding three years. When Shelly moved to Sedona six years ago an immense transformation began in her life and ultimately in how and what she creates. Shelly has been heavily influenced by the barrio sections in Tucson, the Indian pueblos and the old Spanish missions in Arizona and New Mexico. "I express with color. It's always been a natural inclination. It feels appropriate and very satisfying that I now paint the subject matter that I do. My work depicts elemental relationships. It is life pared down and in vibrant color."
