| An
art critic from the Arizona Republic newspaper wrote: “Mr.
Mason revels in testing the boundaries of perception. He
creates two-dimensional images which veer slightly off
center. The exaggeration of scale of his figurative images
suggests a stylistic primitivism often associated with
narrative folk art. Mr. Mason’s paintings run a bit amok but
are full of joy. Another critic called his work “gutsy,
whimsical and compositionally interesting.” |

| Louis
Mason himself says: “I’ve always admired
children’s art, especially the drawings
and paintings made by youngsters in the
second or third grade. They are so
uninhibited and free and full of joyful
colors. So here I am in my golden years
trying to create paintings that are
similar to those that a seven or
eight year old might do. I made my
living as a teacher and author of
business subjects but I’ve been drawing,
sketching, doodling and painting (it
seems) my whole life. When I retired as
a teacher I started the Kindergarten Art
Studio and I’ve been lucky.”
Louis
Mason’s work is held by private and
corporate collectors on four continents. |
