THE HORSE SERIES |
|
|
|
"Life sometimes takes you
full circle, most of the time without even asking you.
During the process of creating a new series of work, my
sleeping passion for horses was reawakened and I intuitively
felt I just had to paint them. |
|
|
|
"I grew up with these
majestic creatures, feeding, grooming, riding and showing
them. Amazingly, after all these years, my intimate and
responsible relationship with these majestic creatures still
lies deep within me and is obviously still a large part of
me. The impression of their incredible mass, sensuous grace
and spirit - spoken with endearing eyes - is unforgettable.
Including [horses] in this new group of paintings pays
homage to them, and is a visual expression of my rekindled
love for them." |

|
|
|
"One of my greatest inspirations for
a heightened energy flow within me, and in my surroundings, is my
relationship with horses. I have learned so much from them over the
years and they continue to teach me something with every encounter. From
them I have learned power without ego, strength without intimidation,
and spirit with consideration. I forget who I am and bask in the
amplified senses of sight, sound and smell. I connect with them on an
intuitive level and we work in unison without having to utter a word.
While I get lost in the moment I never lose touch with the power of this
creature, nor its sensitivity to touch and kindness. For me, my quiet
space is my connection with horses, as much in their physicality as in
their spirit and heart. Just being in their presence empowers me with
new energy. This experience has enriched my life, teaching me patience,
tolerance and understanding toward myself, other people, and challenging
situations in my everyday world."

THE FACES SERIES |
| |
| “I have been
creating this series of faces for
more than a year, changing little
about the face itself, but making
each piece unique in its color,
patterns and mixed-media head
pieces. While not an expert of
eastern religion, history or
studies, I am drawn to the beauty,
sophistication, complex simplicity
of eastern philosophy, design and
its ethereal sense. |
| |
| “To me, these
faces express the faces of the
world, incorporating modernism with
tradition and making them even more
impactful in the large format and
the mixed media, with one-of-a-kind
headpieces.” |

"Wabi Sabi", the Japanese
art of impermanence, is a
complex eastern philosophy
and aesthetic ideal shrouded
in centuries of mystery.
While challenging to
simplify its meaning, it can
be fairly described as "the
embodiment of the Zen cosmic
view, seeking beauty in the
imperfections found in all
things while in a constant
state of flux, evolving from
nothing and devolving back
to nothing." Although our
state of "being" is in a
perpetual state of movement,
there are captured moments
in time which allows us to
contemplate, reflect and
understand. To me, this
piece, named Wabi Sabi,
captures the momentum of
life in a visual expression,
and is here for you to take
in the beauty, feel the
momentum of life (movement
in the ribbon), and to
accept both the perfection
and imperfection of the
human essence. |
