The technique and style of Michael Ethridge has emerged from great experimentation with abstract painting. His variations of color and form and his vibrant color combinations have allowed him to make a unique name for himself; his attention to texture only enhances his oil and acrylic paintings. “The contrast of dark and light make pieces of art exciting,” Ethridge states. “Texture is the same way. It’s a whole other angle of implementing excitement into your piece … of [accentuating] the focal points.”

The fine arts have been a devotion for Ethridge throughout his life. His mother, Dick Ethridge, was an accomplished wildlife and still-life oil painter whose passion inspired her son to take classes throughout high school and college. But gradually music became his focus. For years, Ethridge toured regularly with the Michael Ethridge Band. It was his mother’s illness toward the end of her life that turned Ethridge back to painting as an outlet for his emotions. “I found that painting was so therapeutic for me,” he says. “I was able to create something beautiful, as someone so beautiful to me was dying.”

This pure genesis for his passion is evident in every canvas Ethridge paints as he sees his success blossom in often unexpected ways. His artwork will be seen in a January 2009 movie titled Nothing But the Truth, starring Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, and David Schwimmer; Art Business News named him one of Today's Top Artists; and he has a commission to paint a series of luxury grand pianos for the Baldwin Piano Company’s custom-designed piano line. His first extraordinary grand, titled “Beauty in B Minor,” sold within 15 minutes, and is now on display in Shanghai, China.
 
For Ethridge music and painting go hand in hand. “They’re both fun to create, but much more fun when shared with others. It’s all about making life better for people by adding a little color to their world.”
