Ellen de Jongh spent her childhood in the
Caribbean, Denmark and the Netherlands (where she was born). After
finishing high school in the Netherlands she graduated from the
Royal Dutch Art Academy in the Hague, a creative experience that led
to years spent creating fashion drawings for fashion companies, as
well as producing portraits, while she worked in a fashion academy
as well.
Close to twenty years later de Jongh transitioned completely into
the world of fine art. She now lives and works in the north of
Holland, in an old-fashioned Dutch farmhouse, where she maintains a
studio – and where she produces startlingly bold contemporary
landscapes. |

De Jongh draws
inspiration from sources as varied as her visits to the
Venetian Carnival, Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum and, more
recently, the cliffs and canyons of the United States.
Though her fine art career began with de Jongh painting in a
more traditional style, she has developed her own style of
painting that is increasingly abstract. One can visually
discover the subject that inspired her while also
discovering the emotion and impact the subjects have had on
this gifted artist. Vibrant colors, strong textures and
surprising details couple with the strength of her
expressions to create a body of work that represents a
strong and confident presence in the world of fine art.
Her paintings are widely sold in the Netherlands and seen in
art events in Holland, Belgium and the U.S. |
